Transfer Case PTO is used in cases where Transmission PTO’s are not capable of providing the required power for the superstructure. The transfer case PTO it is located on the truck chassis between the main transmission and differential. These gearboxes are mainly used for Vacuum Trucks, Hydrovacs, Fire Fighting Trucks, Cleaning Combination Trucks, Sweeping Trucks and Road Maintenance Trucks.
SOME DETAILS FOR TRANSFER CASE POWER TAKE OFF
Depending on truck transfer case PTO can have different shapes and models. Transfer case units can be vertical or horizontal. If transfer case PTO is vertical; it can be 3 axis such as UARA.3000, 4 axis such as UARA.2006 or 5 axis such as UARA.2005. When length of the gearbox is increased lubrication system need to be built on the gearbox also. If installation is not done properly, the heating problem can be seen. Even installation is done greatly, in some application superstructure works over and over hours and this is cause of heating. For solution cooling system should be installed on the gearbox.
Although it is optional transfer case units can be controlled by sensors. With Engage & Disengage sensor operator can easily observe if superstructure is on or off and can observe the revolution value with rpm counter sensor. Before selecting transfer case PTO, Truck CVW should be checked. Trucks GVW can be from 3 tons to over 30 tons. According to radial force, every truck needs different solutions. HYDROSTATIC DRIVE: Typical Pump & Roll Featured Kozmaksan transfer case PTO Units are transferring power differential and the equipment during the drive. That means power is divided. The aim of Hydrostatic Drive technology is to transfer movement to the differential even by transfer case PTO unit in full operation with the superstructure. On the other hand, Hydrostatic Drive provides low speed for the truck while superstructures needed to be run with high-speed values. Especially Sweeping Trucks, Salt Spreaders, multi-purpose trucks for road maintenance, Airport Firefighting Trucks can be good application for this system. USAGE OF TRANSFER CASE POWER TAKE OFF
The most important thing is installation of Transfer Case PTO Units for use the product efficiently. Firstly drum brake of truck should be checked. Some truck has drum brake behind their main transmission. For this application Transfer Case PTO Units needs to build with drum brake system.
Transfer Case PTO Units should be used with correct oil which is indicated on the Owner’s Manuel of the product. Engagement and Disengagement could be both mechanical and pneumatic. During Engaged/Disengaged process, the clutch pedal should be pressed.
The Transfer Case PTO Units are shipped as unoiled! Oil should be filled into the Transfer Case PTO by using the oil filling mechanism, before running the vehicle. The oil filling operation should be made on the ground. The required oil level is the top level shown on the indicator. The oil should be totally clean. You are required to use only the recommended oil. (SAE 80 W 90 EP or equivalent oil) In case of using any oil other than the recommended oil, the vehicle is out of warranty coverage. Maintenance should be made before and after long trips. Maintenance should be made at ground level and when the vehicle is not running. In case the oil level is less than required, oil should be added. Make sure that old oil is totally drained and make sure that you are using recommended (correct) oil. In case of mixing old and new oil; This situation is going to cause damage to components of gearbox (shaft, gear, bearing etc.)
First oil changing should be made following 250 hours after the Transfer Case PTO Unit has started to run. Oil changing should be made when the oil is cold. Draining could be made by removing the drain plug. In order to accelerate the process, it is recommended to remove the filling plug also. Before restarting, the drain plug is required to be cleaned. Subsequent oil replacements should be made once in every 1000 hours or once a year.
Check for oil leaks periodically. Check for any oil leaks in the area where the vehicle is operated and the surroundings. In case of detecting any oil leaks, prevent oil leaking, add oil if necessary, contact with manufacturer firm KOZANOĞLU KOZMAKSAN
